Berry Martens (1959)
Berrie Martens, born 28-3-1959 in Chaam (North Brabant). He worked as an entrepreneur in the furniture industry and in 1994 decided to change his life and become a painter. With unadulterated enthusiasm he records his perceptions in color. “His Burgundian zest for life radiates from his works”. Berrie Martens is best known as the spiritual father of his 'Happy People', cheerful colorful abstract dolls. Since 1998 he has put numerous 'happy people' on canvas. The artist's message is: 'Happy people make people happy.' Martens exhibits these happy people and his paintings in surprising locations. He gave grand appearances in New York, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam. Always followed by a crowd of enthusiastic art lovers. Artist's quote: “There is still so much to do. I still have so many ideas. In fact, I would have to live to be three hundred years old to be able to do everything.” Berrie Martens is listed in the National Institute for Art Historical Documentation (RKD): https://rkd.nl/explore/artists/128681 (under his 'name variant' Berry Martens).
