Johanna Elisabeth REPELIUS (Amsterdam 1848 – Amsterdam 1921)
Johanna Elisabeth (Betsy) Repelius was taught by, among others, the history painter Petrus Franciscus Greive and Carel Frans Philippeau and Nicolaas van der Waay. From 1873 to 1876 Betsy studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam under the direction of the genre painter August Allebé. Betsy Repelius devoted herself to painting and watercoloring genre scenes and mainly made interiors with figures.
During her time at the academy, Repelius became a member of the artists' society Arti et Amicitiae in 1875. From 1878 she exhibited her work, including at the annual exhibitions of Living Masters. In addition, she submitted her work for many years to the sales exhibitions of Arti et Amicitiae and the Amsterdam artists' society Sint Lucas.
