Carlos Amorales (1970)
Carlos Amorales studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. He creates drawings, paintings, sculptures, animations, films, performances, and installations in which image, language, and sound converge. His work explores how people communicate through signs, gestures, and sounds. For his Liquid Archive, he collected forms and lines that he reuses in various media. He works with, among other things, gouache, screen printing, cut-out paper, ceramics, and metal constructions. Black silhouettes and self-developed alphabets recur in his work; in this process, recognizable images shift towards abstract signs.
