Eugene de Heem (1879 -1962 )
Eugene DE HEEM (Ghent 1879 - Ghent 1962)
Eugène De Heem was both an architect and a watercolorist—a typical painter-architect of his generation. In 1904, he graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, where architecture and visual arts were closely linked. Many architects of that period were also active as draftsmen or artists.
De Heem also designed houses, villas, and public buildings in a style ranging from neoclassical to cottage style, often with a focus on craftsmanship and harmony with the surroundings. His work is primarily represented in Ghent and the surrounding area.
