Lovemore Kambudzi (1978)
Lovemore KAMBUDZI (Seke, Chitungwiza 1978)
Lovemore Kambudzi is a painter; Lovemore Kambudzi was born in Seke, a residential area near Chitungwiza just outside Harare, grew up in the inner-city district of Mbare, and trained at the Visual Arts Studios of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe from 1996 to 1998, where he received an Award of Distinction as a promising young artist in 1998.
Lovemore Kambudzi developed a recognizable pointillist painting style in which thousands of paint dots combine to form large, dynamic scenes of contemporary urban life in Zimbabwe: busy streets, markets, demonstrations, hospital and border scenes, in which, as a “chronicler of the people,” he weaves social commentary and political observation with humor and sharp details. Lovemore Kambudzi received, among other awards, the Commonwealth Arts and Crafts Award in 2003.
