Madeleine Van der Knoop (1953)
Sculptor
Madeleine VAN DER KNOOP (Brussels 1953)
Madeleine van der Knoop is a sculptor who creates figurative sculptures of people and animals. She works primarily in bronze and bases her sculptures on observations of live models. Birds, including birds of prey, are a recurring subject. In her sculptures, she captures posture, movement, and body proportions, paying attention to the structure of feathers and other surfaces. In addition to her bronze sculptures, she has been designing animal figures for the French glass factory Daum since 2011. These designs are executed in colored pâte de cristal, where the color and translucency of the material form part of the representation.
