Painter
Mozes MISDY (Gambiran, Banyuwangi 1941 – Banyuwangi 2021)
Misdy Hadji Mozes, usually referred to as Mozes Misdy, was a painter who developed as a self-taught artist. He worked with oil on canvas and used a palette knife to apply the paint in thick layers. His subjects included fishing boats, beaches, fishing villages, and daily life in Indonesia. Additionally, he painted market scenes, figures, and mother-and-child depictions. He simplified forms and built up his compositions with pronounced areas of color and a relief-like paint texture. He worked in various locations in Indonesia and mentored younger artists in Banyuwangi.
