Paul VAN HOEYDONCK (Antwerp 1925 - Wijnegem 2025)

Van Hoeydonck was a sculptor, painter and pioneer of modern art. He became known worldwide as the creator of the only work of art that was placed on the moon: Fallen Astronaut, during the Apollo 15 mission in 1971. His work began with geometric abstract paintings and developed into plexiglass reliefs, assemblages and futuristic sculptures, often inspired by space travel and technology. He was active in avant-garde groups and his work was shown in museums worldwide. His oeuvre forms a unique bridge between art and science.
