Roche Bobois is a furniture brand and publisher born from the collaboration between the Roche and Chouchan families. Initially, the company focused on introducing Scandinavian furniture to France. From 1964 onwards, it developed its own collections in collaboration with designers, including Pierre Paulin and Marc Berthier. Sofas and modular seating occupied a central place within the range from the 1970s. A defining piece is the Mah Jong by Hans Hopfer from 1971, a seating system of loose, combinable cushions. In addition to contemporary design, Roche Bobois also released collections that drew on traditional French furniture forms.
