Ellen JENS (Zwolle 1952)
Ellen Jens was born in 1952 in the village of Elburg, the Netherlands. Later on she moved to Limburg and spent her childhood there. Since 1982 Ellen has lived in the center of the Netherlands in the village of Beusichem. Ellen studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Enschede (graphics department, 1969-1974). Until about 1990 she mainly made graphics, by coloring etchings by hand. Later on she developed a growing need for the directness of drawing/painting. Since 1997, Ellen has been making collages of paper, in which she has also started to process other materials, such as metal, plastic, wood, etc. In this way Ellen transforms worthless material into something aesthetic, often a piece of jewelry or something related to it.
