Ad Arma - Etching, Title "Dance of the Young Warrior".

Beautiful, subtle etching by Ad Arma, Artist of the Year 1995. Ad Arma (Rotterdam, 1954) was born in Rotterdam (1954) and trained at Artibus, Academy of Fine Arts in Utrecht (1974-1979). Ad Arma is a versatile artist. In addition to his graphic work, he also creates bronze sculptures, gouaches, oil paintings, and ceramic work. The underlying theme in much of his work is the realization that everything is one, interconnected. Over the years, new themes continually pass in review: the thin line between dream and reality, transience, space and insignificance, oblivion. A small selection of the themes that can be found in Ad Arma's work over the years. But more important than the artist's intention with his work, he considers the vision of the art viewer. 'The added value, the spirit of the work, is the addition that the viewer will project onto the work.' In his workshop in the polder, Ad Arma prefers to work on his new creations in the dead of night. Alone, in his own world of experience. Jazz music plays as a catalyst and a guide for concentration. Here his ideas come to life; he allows everything in. The art is not in omission, but in admission (then you can always admit the omission later). Ad Arma also regularly travels to India and Japan to give seminars to young artists or to gain inspiration himself. During these trips, he took Asia to heart, and since then it has occupied a major place in his work. Over the years, Ad Arma has curated an impressive number of exhibitions and projects, with the provisional highlight being winning the prestigious "Artist of the Year" competition in 2007.
