André Masson (1896 - 1987) was a French surrealist who invented the technique of automatic drawing. With this method, he drew at lightning speed without thinking, to instantly transfer his subconscious urges onto paper. His style is characterized by a tangle of explosive, flowing lines in which (erotic) human figures are often hidden.
