Ans Wortel worked in Bergen for many years. The style of this artwork is lyrical expressionism with surrealist and poetic influences.
The flowing lines and the floating, naked figures create a dreamy, floating atmosphere. As is often the case, this work also revolves around love, security, motherhood, and human vulnerability. The large, two-colored face in the background is her highly recognizable trademark.
The handwritten poetic text beneath the image forms an essential part of the composition.
