Arts received his education at the Academy of Visual Arts in Arnhem. He started his artistic career painting porcelain plates. In the early days he mainly made drawings with colored pencil. In addition to drawings, paintings and graphics, he makes sculptures, multiples and conceptual works using mixed media. He also worked with glass and ceramics, photographs and did performances. His work is reminiscent of pop art. He gave motifs from advertising and clichés from the popular media a clever twist that can evoke an aha experience in the viewer. Recurring themes in his work include art, artistry and self-portrait. He liked to play with words. For example, one of his mottos was: A work of Arts is a Joy Forever. Arts and his studio were located in an old grocery store in the Klarendal district of Arnhem; the shop windows were decorated by himself or by guest exhibitors with changing installations. Over the years, Arts had repeatedly received publicity for his actions in his hometown. He led masterclasses and art projects with local residents. For commissions and exhibitions he realized sculptures in public space. In response to the idea of merging Arnhem and Nijmegen, he came up with the name 'Arnijm' and created various works of art for it, including the website arnijm.nl, to which volunteers could send contributions as a contemporary variant of mail art: e-mail art. Arts died on April 3, 2018 at the age of seventy after an illness of several months.
