Owner and photographer of the Algemeen Hollands Fotopersbureau (1945–1969). Three-time winner of the Silver Camera (1950, 1958, and 1966), co-founder and secretary of World Press Photo. During his lifetime, a street was named after him in the photographers' neighborhood in the Amsterdam new-build district of IJburg.
