Betty Scheer (Ginneken, May 16, 1941 – The Hague, January 13, 2006)

This concerns a linocut named "Musical Instrument" from 2003.
It was printed in an edition of 3 copies, and this is number 1 of 3.
The paper size is 55 x 59 cm
The image size is 45 x 45 cm.

Betty Scheer was a Dutch artist.
She made tapestries, pastels, linocuts, and oil paintings.
After her training at the KABK in The Hague between 1959 and 1965, she began making tapestries, mostly depicting animals and plants.
After this, she made pastels, mainly of landscapes and still lifes.
She began making linocuts around 1992, initially with a low number of printing runs, but over time she developed this technique to such an extent that she also started working in halftones (see intaglio) and transparencies, so that her later work often consisted of fifteen or more printing runs.
Because Betty printed everything by hand, this was very labor-intensive; as a result, the print run often did not exceed five copies.
Artists who have had a great influence on her include Rein Draijer, her teacher at the academy, and the painters Dick Ket and Morandi with their serene compositions.
As for the more exuberant and colorful side, painters such as Matisse and Rik Wouters had a great influence on her work.
She was taught by, among others, George Lampe, Nol Kroes, Willem Schrofer, Rudi Rooijackers, and Co Westerik.
During her time at the academy, she modeled for Willem Schrofer and Rudi Rooijackers, among others.
