Framed engraved metal plate depicting a young man and woman in the dunes This framed metal plate depicts a young man and woman in a dune landscape, in a composition associated with the Dutch painter David Adolph Constant Artz (1837–1890).
The image and the inscription “ARTZ” are visibly incised into the metal surface. The composition has previously been associated with an engraving attributed to H. de Tebera; however, the maker of this particular plate and the relationship between the object and the historical engraving have not been independently established.
The object is presented in a wooden frame with a small “Grabado” plaque. Its engraved surface, visible signature and framed presentation give it an interest for collectors of historical graphic art and engraved metal objects.
The precise date, metal composition and original purpose of the plate have not been independently verified. It is therefore described as an engraved metal plate, rather than being definitively identified as an original nineteenth-century printing matrix.
The engraving has been attributed to H. de Tebera and is based on a composition associated with David Adolph Constant Artz (1837–1890). The precise authorship, date and original function of the metal plate have not been independently verified.
