Elly Kuipers was a teacher at the Vrije Academie in Nijmegen, now known as De Lindenberg, from 1970 to 2000. After that, she continued to supervise students from her own studio. Elly Kuipers was very productive as a visual artist. She left thousands of paintings and also made graphic work. She is originally from Arnhem. Through her primary school, she became connected to Catholicism and thus came into religious circles in Nijmegen. Faith and nature were important sources of inspiration for her. After her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem and the Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Antwerp, Elly Kuipers devoted herself to painting still lifes and portraits. Later, she was asked by the municipality of Nijmegen to record disappearing buildings and streets in Nijmegen and the surrounding area for the archive and for exhibitions (source: De Gelderlander 2 March 2019 Saturday Nijmegen Edition).
