Heavy cast bronze medal (paperweight) after a design by the sculptor Henk van Bommel (The Hague 1938). Manufactured for the Dutch Ministry of Justice and executed by Koninklijke Begeer BV in Voorschoten. Rare. Dimensions: 8.6 cm (diameter) x 1.5 cm.
Marked on the front with the initials of Henk van Bommel (HVB). The first copy was presented to Queen Juliana on 23 May 1979 on the occasion of the opening of the then office complex of the Ministries of Justice and of the Interior on the Houtmarkt in The Hague. In the photo the ministers de Ruyter and Wiegel, in the middle Queen Juliana. This copy will have been given as a gift, on September 1, 1981 (see inscription on the back).
Both 82-metre-high office towers - designed by Architectenbureau Lucas+Niemeijer and characterized at the time as a top achievement in the field of architecture and construction in the Netherlands - were demolished in 2016 and partly converted into residential towers.
