Herman Hahndiek - Love Couple (Rien Goené)

'Loving Couple', a plaster sculpture by Rien Goené from the 1950s, photographed by Hahndiek in 1961. Framed in a neat frame and passe-partout.

From the 1930s to the mid-1960s, Herman Hahndiek belonged to the absolute top of Dutch photographers. Due to his emigration to South Africa from 1948–1958 and permanently in 1961, he eventually fell into obscurity in the Netherlands. The central theme of Hahndiek's work is the human being. His portraits possess psychological depth because he sought to fathom the person in front of his camera. In the Netherlands, he moved in well-known artistic circles; among others, Ina Boudier-Bakker, Carel Willink, Rien Goené, Cris Agterberg, Gérard Grassère, Mari Andriessen, Charlotte van Pallandt, Wessel Couzijnen, and many others had their portraits painted by him. In 1960, the paperback 'Beeldhouwers in Beeld' was published, featuring sixty sculptors and their work. During the auction, Hahndiek's work can be viewed by appointment in the center of Utrecht. Provenance: Dutch private collection.
