Rare self-portrait of Ies (Isaac) Jacobs.
Ies Jacobs (1918–2011) was a Dutch visual artist and draftsman, whose work and life were strongly marked by his Jewish heritage and the Second World War.
Ies (Isaac) Jacobs was known for his impressionistic style and for capturing the "authenticity" of people. In addition to this late self-portrait, his oeuvre includes many portraits of others.
Documentary "Aanpakkers" (2007): In this documentary by Frans Bromet, we see how the artist is still working at nearly 90 years of age, forming a living "self-portrait" of his final years.
Instead of an exact likeness, he sought the "naturalness" and authenticity of aging.
