Jack Aue - Harbor view

Jack Aué (1895–1970) was a Dutch painter and draftsman known primarily for his atmospheric landscapes, village scenes, and characteristic impressions of the Dutch countryside. His work demonstrates a strong connection to nature and a predilection for simple, rural motifs, which he captured in a calm, balanced style. Aué worked extensively in oil and watercolor, developing a personal visual language focused on light, atmosphere, and composition.

In this vibrant harbor scene, Aué uses quick, broad brushstrokes to bring to life a dynamic impression of ships on the waterfront. The playful touch and fresh color contrasts give the scene a spontaneous, almost impressionistic feel. The trees and buildings in the background are suggested with loose strokes, focusing on the light movement of water, sky, and ships. The work exudes a summery, open atmosphere and demonstrates Aué's ability to capture atmosphere, depth, and activity in the landscape with minimal means.
