A great Dutch master artist, who unfortunately only lived to the age of 31. His entire oeuvre, created between 1907 and 1918, includes approximately 150 paintings, mostly in small formats, about 100 drawings and more than 40 sheets of graphics, mainly etchings and woodcuts.
Jan Mankes has gone down in art history as “Holland's most tranquil painter”. He died young of tuberculosis, something that has contributed to the myth-making surrounding his artistry.
