Atmospheric, signed watercolor by Jan van Oort depicting three oystercatchers on a wide beach. In the background, the surf and various coastal birds can be seen.
The birds in the foreground are meticulously rendered, with great attention to their plumage, characteristic long beaks, and lively postures. The restrained palette of sand tones, grey-blue, and brown gives the scene a calm, natural appearance. The large birds in the foreground and the smaller birds along the waterline create a beautiful sense of depth.
Jan van Oort made bird illustrations for books by Jac. P. Thijsse.
The work is signed in the lower left corner and is in excellent condition. Framed in a period frame, which is also in fine condition.
Dimensions of work: 71 × 51 cm
Frame dimensions: 94 × 74 cm
