Jens Cords(*July 21, 1932 - 2016) was a German sign painter, printer, and artist from Hamburg. Cords studied at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts from 1953 to 1957 under Kurt Kranz, Paul Wunderlich, and Willi Titze in the Department of Free Graphics and graphic techniques. In 1956, he became a master student of Wunderlich and Titze. Also in 1956, he established a workshop for intaglio printing. Between 1959 and 1963, he broke with informal painting and turned to a new figuration. He created works in oil, watercolor, and printmaking, as well as murals for public buildings in Hamburg. In 1960, he joined the "New Group Hamburg." From 1968 to 1975, he created illustrations for the "Deutsche Allgemeine Sonntagsblatt" (German General Sunday Paper). From 1963, he was a lecturer in painting and graphic arts at the adult education centers in Hamburg and Ahrensburg. From 1982, he concentrated on watercolor painting with the theme of still life and vanitas. Since 2014, Jens Cords has lived with his wife in a retirement home in Hamburg-Bramfeld. The Rahlstedt Citizens' Association has his office issued.
