Johan Hendrik van Mastenbroek is known for his striking drawings of the Rotterdam ports and the surrounding area.
I bought this drawing in 2010 at the Gunther auction house in Dresden.
In the lower left, the drawing is hand-signed JH v Mastenbroek, and in the lower right, dated 27 Dec. 1941.
On the back is a sticker from the framer JJ Schraag from The Hague and the number 0/569 in the upper left corner. In my opinion, this is not the numbering of a multiple print! I cannot find another copy of it either.
Next to the number, handwritten in pencil: at Haastrecht, JH van Mastenbroek.
I had the work luxuriously framed with five! passe-partouts and a grand blue/(white)gold frame by a framer in Maassluis.
A ready-to-hang artwork that does justice to a seemingly simple sketch by a good artist.
Due to a move, I no longer have room for this beautiful artwork.
