Special and very large mixed printing technique (hand-colored relief print, aquatint) on handmade paper, which Jan Sleper made in 1973 as an EA copy. Johannes Bernardus (Jan) Sleper or JB Sleper (Hilversum, August 18, 1919 – Amsterdam, January 3, 2000) was a Dutch sculptor, painter, graphic artist, draftsman and illustrator

Sleper trained at the Amsterdam Graphic School in Amsterdam from 1932 to 1935 and visited the studios of Co Breman in Laren, Gerard Koekkoek in Hilversum and Willem van Konijnenburg in The Hague between 1936 and 1942. He studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam from 1938 to 1942.

Sleper won the GJ Thieme study prize in 1938, as well as the Willink van Collen Prize for painting in 1940. He received the prestigious Prix de Rome for painting in 1942 and the Prix de Rome for graphic art in 1948. During 1949 and 1950 he lived in Italy and Spain and in 1951 in France. In 1953 he settled in Breda, where he taught at the Academy of Visual Arts Sint-Joost. His students included Cor van Gulik, Piet Hohmann, Anneke Kuyper, Jan Michielsen and Ad Willemen.

The artist worked as an etcher, graphic designer, watercolorist, illustrator, lithographer, wood engraver, draftsman, sculptor and ceramist. He designed banknotes for De Nederlandsche Bank from 1946 to 1951, including the 25 guilder note in 1949. He produced book bindings and covers, as well as copper and wood engravings and lithographs for book editions of various publishers. He was a member of Sint Lucas, the Sociëteit Teisterbant, the Association for the Promotion of Graphic Art, the Dutch Federation of Professional Associations of Artists and the Brabantse Kunststichting

Relief printing is a collective word for deepened or increased printing that leaves a visible and palpable relief. A raised stamp with the image of the final design is pressed into the paper with great pressure, creating a relief. The relief can be made of ink or foil, so-called letterpress or hot foil stamping. The relief can also consist of only the print of the stamp and if the paper is sufficiently thick, this print will be clearly visible and felt.
