In Amsterdam kreeg hij les van de kunstschilder/illustrator L.W.R. Wenckebach. Johan Josseaud schilderde, tekende, aquarelleerde, etste en lithografeerde stadsgezichten (vooral Amsterdam en Haarlem), landschappen, interieurs , stillevens en zeegezichten. Hij is een relatief onbekende kunstenaar gebleven. Werk van zijn hand is opgenomen in de collectie van het Frans Halsmuseum te Haarlem.
