Both the work and the frame are old and original. Presumably painted in the 1950s in Amsterdam's De Pijp district. It is a powerful and characterful portrait of a woman; an expressively painted face with dark, loose brushstrokes, warm red and ochre tones, and a dark background. It is a characteristic, rough painting style. Personal and expressionistic.
It was a gift from someone who knew the painter. There is a signature at the bottom, near the light collar; I can see the last three letters clearly, and the rest is less visible.
Finally, in all honesty: there are 2 small holes in it: 1 in her right side of the image and 1 very small hole in the neck. It is a nice work by a renowned artist. A beautiful addition to the wall.
