To earn a living, Bart de Jong worked as a house painter in Rotterdam. In his spare time, he painted figurative paintings featuring landscapes, portraits, and seascapes. He sold these paintings to dealers. In almost complete anonymity, Lambertus continued to develop his own abstract style throughout his life. It wasn't until he was sixty-nine that he seemed ready to show his "geologically abstract" work to the public. He continued working in this style until the end of his life. These paintings seem to depict elements of nature and the cosmos that can be experienced spiritually.
