Frisian Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836 – 1912) is one of the most successful painters of 19th century England. He was the storyteller of his time. With his seductive paintings he brought classical antiquity to life like no other. His impact was so great that his influence can still be heard in Hollywood to this day.

The sheets are grey-blue in colour, each 27x35 cm, and probably come from the art magazine Kunstkronijk (ca.1886).
