Since the early 1990s, I have been using the diffuse method of painting in my work. The result of this diffusion is that a psychological "barrier" arises between the viewer and the image. This "barrier" does not function as a regular barrier, closing off the image, but as a catalyst that evokes new images. At the same time, the image also becomes elusive. Initially, I used scientific photographs for my paintings. These photographs always involved microscopic enlargements, thus making the invisible visible. I would then enlarge these enlargements once more and paint them diffusely, rendering the size indeterminate. It concerns micro- and macro-space as it is also studied in quantum mechanics. The study of the very largest (universe) and the very smallest (atoms), where it is striking that the forms and laws of the micro- and macro-worlds broadly correspond. This observation interests me because, given these correspondences, it seems as if a complex composition has been created in which the notes are interconnected, forming a larger whole. This whole is the universe as we know it, but we only see what we can see with our limited perception. Now, one could speak of divine intervention that conceived all this, but I am not religious in that sense, so I must look for another explanation. I do have a belief in the "higher," and then one might perhaps speak of a higher power or a higher dimension. In a quest for "the truth," one can posit the proposition that we are insignificant, but that everything is contained within our insignificance. In that case, it could be due to our limited perception that we cannot see through everything.
