Maurice Cockrill (British, 1936-2013) is a second generation modern British artist of the Liverpool School. He was born in Hartlepool and attended Wrexham School of Art in Wales and later Denbigh Technical College and the University of Reading. After returning to Liverpool he taught at Liverpool College of Art and Liverpool Polytechnic. He occupied a prominent place within the Liverpool artistic scene. He exhibited regularly at the Walker Art Gallery and used Pop Art and Photorealist styles, which were closely related to the work of the father of Pop propaganda, Adrian Henri. In the early 1980s he moved to London and gradually turned to romantic expressionism.
