Mel Ramos - Davidoff – Signed - Special Edition - beautifully framed

This striking work by American Pop Art artist Mel Ramos depicts one of his characteristic pin-up figures lying on a monumentally depicted Davidoff cigar.

Signed by hand in pencil by Mel Ramos in the bottom right.

This concerns a special work, a signed calendar page from a Vorzugsausgabe / special edition from 2003.

The combination of a seductive female model with an enlarged commercial product is immediately recognizable as part of Ramos' visual language. In his work, starting in the 1960s, Ramos combined the visual language of advertising, popular culture, and classic pin-up illustrations. Well-known brands and consumer goods were enlarged and combined with idealized female figures. With these works, Ramos playfully explored the boundary between Pop Art, advertising, glamour, and mass consumption.

The work is professionally framed, under an acid-free mat, in a custom-made white wooden frame with Plexiglas® Optical HC, which offers UV protection, scratch resistance, and minimal reflection.
Dimensions including frame: approx. 43 x 63 cm.

About the artist
Mel Ramos (Sacramento, 1935 – Oakland, 2018) was an American painter and printmaker and is considered an important representative of American Pop Art. He became known in the 1960s for colorful depictions in which superheroes, pin-ups, and well-known consumer products took center stage.

Ramos developed a completely unique style within Pop Art. While artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein made use of images from advertising, comics, and mass media, Ramos primarily made the idealized world of advertising and the female beauty ideal the subject of his art. His works are held in various international museum and private collections.
