Peter E Ball is a renowned English sculptor. He has created a great deal of religiously inspired work. This pilgrim with a bell is part of a series titled 'Pilgrims'. It was made around 1985 and consists of a combination of weathered wood (the body) and bronze (head and feet). The bronze features gold leaf details, creating a fascinating contrast. Around his neck, the pilgrim wears a real gold bell.
