Pieter Holstein – Beautiful diptych of two hand-colored etchings.
A beautiful, characteristic diptych by the renowned Dutch artist and printmaker Pieter Holstein (1934). It consists of two separate, early etchings that complement each other perfectly thematically and were acquired as a set at the time. Both works stand out due to Holstein's dryly humorous, philosophical visual language, in which abstracted profiles and imaginative creatures interact. Because the etchings were subsequently hand-colored with watercolor, each piece within the edition is unique in terms of color shading. The works feature so-called 'matching numbers': they both bear the early serial number 11, which makes this set particularly collectible. Condition: The print and coloring are in very good, fresh condition. The frames show light signs of use consistent with their age, but are ready to be hung immediately. Handling: Due to the glass plate in the frames, pickup is preferred. Shipping is possible via parcel post (well protected and packed with registered mail), but entirely at the risk and expense of the buyer.
