In this powerful, large-format painting, Ria Rettich presents a symbolic “dance” among deceased or ghostlike officers — stiffly posed, uniformed figures caught in a ritualistic or theatrical movement. The composition evokes both tragedy and satire: a haunting reflection on war, power, and memory. The figures, possibly skeletal or mask-like, appear emotionally distant yet theatrically posed, set against a subdued, stage-like background. As with much of Rettich’s work, the painting balances expressive brushwork with symbolic stillness, inviting deep psychological and political interpretation.
