Lithograph by the Italian artist/engraver Salvatore Tresca (1750-1815) after an original painting by the French artist Louis-Léopold Boilly (1761-1845) titled 'La Douce Résistance' (The Sweet Resistance).
The scene depicts the seduction of a rebellious maiden by a somewhat dissolute 'gentleman' beside an unmade bed and a chair draped with clothes. This work was one of Boilly's many provocative boudoir scenes, a theme that caused him all sorts of problems, because in the era of the French Revolution they bore the stamp of the decadence of the 'ancien régime'.
The lithograph is framed in a rectangular gilded wooden frame, surrounded by a small 'string of pearls' motif. Height / width 74/61.5
