  • Depicting: View of ''Het Schouwtje'' with in the foreground the Leidsevaart and Schouwtjesbrug in Haarlem.

  • Text on the Haarlem Art Centre website: "In the 1970s, Sander van Walsum envisioned a future as a painter. He was admitted to the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, but ultimately chose to study history at Utrecht University. After graduating, he ended up in journalism. A few years ago, Sander rediscovered his old love as an artist and had to admit that all the years that preceded it had not been entirely fruitless: he always 'translated', consciously or unconsciously, the things he saw (at home, on the street, while traveling, or in the store) into painted images. For the past year, these paintings no longer take shape exclusively in his mind, but also in reality.
  • Whether it's the Grote Markt in Haarlem or a square in Berlin (Die Siegessäule), Van Walsum consistently surprises us with his poetic and often sunny view of the world. "Beach of Parnassia" is masterful, in which he creates a summery scene with striking impressionistic strokes. In all his modesty, he may find it hard to admit, but Sander van Walsum is a passionate and virtuoso painter.
