Description:
A magnificent pair of ceramic wall plaques produced in the iconic Villeroy & Boch factory in Mettlach (Germany), ideal for collectors of design ceramics or Mid-Century interior decor.
Design: Two elongated tiles featuring an expressionist and geometrically stylized aesthetic. They show a high-gloss black glazed finish with cream-matte linework illustrations. One plaque depicts the Virgin Mary and the other shows the Crucifixion scene with the "INRI" scroll.
Mark & Period: The reverse side bears the impressed manufacturer mark: "V&B Mettlach - Made in Germany (Saar)". The inclusion of the region (SAAR) precisely dates their production to between 1947 and 1957 (during the post-WWII Saar Protectorate period).
