Leo Meiersdorff (1934 -1994 )

Painter, Draftsman

Leo MEIERSDORFF (Berlin 1934 – Idyllwild 1994)

Leo Meiersdorff studied art at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin and worked as a painter and illustrator. Jazz forms a central subject in his oeuvre, with depictions of musicians, orchestras, and performances. He played piano and trombone himself, creating a close connection between music and visual art in his work. He primarily used watercolor and ink, and also created oil paintings and mixed media. His work encompasses both figurative scenes and expressionistic abstractions. After emigrating to the United States, he also documented the restaurant and music culture of New Orleans and designed record covers, posters, and murals.
