Piet Mulder studied painting at the Artibus Academy in Utrecht and settled in Geldermalsen in 1945. In addition to his studio in Betuwe, he had a second studio on the English East Coast since 1975, from where he painted many harbors and beach scenes. Between 1954 and 2014, he had more than 40 one-man exhibitions, including in the Stadsgalerie in Woudrichem and Het Stroomhuis in Neerijnen, and he participated in approximately 60 group exhibitions, including by the Dutch Association of Sea Painters, in Museum Mesdag, Maritime Museums in Amsterdam, Vlissingen and Rotterdam, and elsewhere.? He is included in the Lexicon of Dutch Visual Artists 1750-1950 by Pieter Scheen ( The Hague, 1969) and Edward Archibald's Dictionary of Sea Painters (London, 1995). ??Piet Mulder was one of the leading painters from the Betuwe in the second half of the twentieth century. In the sixties he was chairman of the Kontaktkring voor Beeldende Kunst between the Great Rivers, to which artists such as Jan van Munster, Johan Ponsioen and Reijer Murman were affiliated, and afterwards often exhibited with the Tielse Kunstensociety. collections of the Streekmuseum in Tiel, the Literary Museum in The Hague, the Municipality of Geldermalsen, Landgoed Mari_nwaerdt and the Geldersch Landschap. This spring the book Piet Mulder - The sea is boring was published about him (Uitg. De Weideblik, 2014).
