Riihimaki
The Finnish glass manufacturer Riihimäki started in 1910 and was founded by Mikko Adolf Kolehmainen and his son. Early production mainly consisted of packaging glass, later windows were added. From 1927, Riihimäki grew through the purchase of another glass manufacturer, Kaukalahti. In 1937 the nam was adapted to Riihimaën Lasi Oy and in the same year Aimo Okkolin started designing for the company. In the years that followed, Helea Tynell, Tamara Aladin and Nanny Still also joined the design team. This team cared for the popular and signature designs of the manufacturer for twenty years. Until 1976, their focus was on the production of decoration and utility glass. After 1977, only packaging was made. In 1985, Riihimäki was bought by Ahlstrom and merged with Karhula in 1988 under the name Ahlstrom Riihimaën Lasi Oy. In 1990 the factory itself was closed.
