Theo Onnes (1957)

Painter, Graphic artist

Theo Onnes (1957) comes from a family of painters. Grandfather Klaas, father Minne and sister Gerda, they all paint. It was therefore not surprising that he eventually chose to study painting at ABK Minerva Groningen, where he graduated in 1999. Theo lives and works in the former Town Hall of Eenrum in the province of Groningen. A beautiful monumental Amsterdam School building from 1930. His wife Ankie has her gallery here, Galerie Het Raadhuis. ( www.galeriehetraadhuis.nl) He gained fame mainly through his paintings of cows and goats, but if you look at more of Theo Onnes' work, you will discover a world in which there is also ample room for landscapes and people. His hometown of Eenrum is located in the special area of Het Hoogeland, which is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Theo; light in a ditch, plowed land, the sun on a goat's back, the tenderness of a newborn calf. Theo is touched by this seemingly everyday life around him. He translates this powerfully in his paintings and in this way makes his amazement more than perceptible to us. Even palpable.
