Antoinette Agathe van Hoytema was een leerling van de Kunstacademie ‘Kunstoefening’ in Arnhem en van H.P. Bremmer. Zij schilderde in naturalistische stijl landschappen, stadsgezichten, portretten en stillevens.
Antoinette Van Hoytema was lid van de kunstenaarsverenigingen ‘De onafhankelijken’ te Amsterdam, van de Federatie v. B.B.K. en de Schilderessen vereniging ‘O.D.I.S’. Er is werk van Van Hoytema in bezit van het Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen te Rotterdam, Gemeentemuseum Den Haag en Museum Kröller-Müller.
Zij maakte, voor die tijd, verre studiereizen naar Spanje, Italië, Noord -en Zuid Afrika.
