  • Ger Lataster (Schaesberg, February 16, 1920) can be counted among the abstract expressionists. After his studies at the Hogeschool voor Industrial Kunsten in Maastricht, he then studied at the State Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam.

Lataster is able to apply abstract expressionism to the extreme. By using contrasting elements, techniques and materials, he manages to surprise the viewer again and again. Because Lataster consistently applies these techniques, his artworks come across as reliable, no matter how big the changes in recent years.

Well-known works by Lataster are the painting 'Children Playing' - commissioned in 1954 by the municipality of Heerlen - and the monumental ceiling painting for the Mauritshuis in The Hague, Icarus Atlanticus, 1987-1988. Lataster is one of the most successful Dutch artists of his generation.
