Julia Winter (Moscow, 1965) is a Russian-Dutch artist who has lived and worked in Amsterdam since 1995. She is mainly known as a collagist. Julia trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow. Winter is her stage name. Her real name is Julia Krupenia. She decided to adopt the name Winter in reference to her twelve-year stay in the town of Workuta in the Arctic Circle.

The overarching theme in Julia's work is the juxtaposition of opposites such as man-woman, guilt-innocence, present-past, which she transforms into layered poetic works. Julia Winter makes, among other things, 'double portraits' in which she uses a collage technique to merge two faces while each represents one of two opposites. In much of her work she uses international newspapers as a medium. Winter also paints photos using a combination of drippings and transparent layers, sometimes combined with text.

Julia Winter is a well-known figure in the Amsterdam art scene and regularly exhibits in leading galleries. Her work is internationally renowned and has been part of exhibitions at The Museum of Russian Art, Minneapolis, Museum Van Bommel van Dam, Venlo, Museum Jan, Amstelveen, Museum Tsaritsyno, Moscow, Hermitage Museum, Amsterdam, Neuberger Museum of Art, New York, Moscow Biennale of contemporary art, Other Gallery, Shanghai, Tour & Taxis, Brussels, Lena & Roselli Gallery, Ghent, Museum of Modern Art, Moscow, Galerie Ramakers, The Hague, KunstRAI, Amsterdam, Art Fair, Zurich, Lena & Roselli Gallery, Paris and many others.
