Apollon, original woodcut in blue from 1971. Print made for the Nierendorf Gallery from the original printing plate. Typographically confirmed at the bottom edge: "MAX KAUS Apollon, Original Woodcut 1971". Image size 15 x 15 cm, sheet size 30 x 20.5 cm. Very well preserved.
Max Kaus' woodcut "Apollo" displays Kaus's characteristically expressive formal language, which combines classical themes with a modern, abstracting aesthetic. The intense blue tone highlights the lines, creates distance, and emphasizes the Apollonian ideals of clarity, order, and spiritual freedom. This gives the image a simultaneously modern and symbolic quality, which intensifies the radiance of the Apollonian motif.
