Beautiful work by Theo Kuijpers. Invitation au Voyage originally comes from a five-part map, but Theo also made a number of individual copies. A strong work by Kuijpers.
Theo Kuijpers (Helmond, 1939) attended the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven. He performed his military service in Suriname from 1962 to 1963. Back in Brabant, he incorporated impressions of South America in his paintings. To this day, his work is often created according to this method: Traveling (to Morocco, Australia, Italy, France, Iceland and many other countries); looking around; rendering in form and color on canvas what remains in the mind and heart as the essence of his impressions. Initially he was a material artist in the vein of Tapiès. For example, in display cases with pig's bladder, lead, wood and other materials, he captured his memories of his origins from a farming family in Mierlo, which had solidified into art. Although he has developed more and more into an abstract painter over the years, he has remained a constructivist. Not only his handwriting is often reminiscent of architecture, by using canvas, rope and branches in addition to paint, he also shows himself to be a 'builder' of paintings. Work by Theo Kuijpers is included in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven and private collectors in the Netherlands and abroad.
