A small work by Willem van Konijnenburg, who caused a national and international sensation during the interwar period. The subject matter has been developed by Van Konijnenburg in several ways: as a painting(s), watercolor, and a large monumental charcoal drawing.
He also regarded this small painting as a standalone work, as he placed his monogram in the lower left corner. See photo.
Seated figure by tree is from Venduehuis Den Haag, Vendue Next Door Part 2 Premium, January 7, 2024, lot 10028 and a large Van Konijnenburg collection.
From February 8 to June 7, 2026, the painting was on display at Museum Jan Cunen Oss during the major retrospective exhibition 'Willem van Konijnenburg. From Chaos'.
In early 2026, the painting was restored by Alice van der Knokke (De restauratiemeester, Beek en Donk). The restoration report is available.
